The boss is from the United States and has been selling pizza in Hualien for 15 years and 12 years,

I passed by Songyuan Annex several times and accidentally discovered a vegetarian pizza shop on the corner of Zhongmei Road, and I got the idea to try it!

The boss is an American named Terry. He is a handsome uncle. He is over 50 years old this year, but he looks very young and is still a handsome uncle.

I couldn’t resist my inner curiosity, so after asking for permission, I started chatting with my boss.

Terry is from Oklahoma, USA. He graduated from the United States about 20 years ago, majoring in history. He was a history teacher in the United States, and came to Taiwan because of his love for Asian history.

Why don’t you go to Japan and South Korea when you come to Asia?

Just because I had a very good friend in Taichung, Taiwan at that time,

So I came to Taiwan on my first trip to Asia. I was attracted by the kindness of Taiwanese people and the beautiful scenery of mountains and rivers, and stayed in Taiwan.

It wasn’t until I came to Taiwan that I started learning to write and speak Chinese.

In fact, in the past 20 years, I also went to Korea for 10 days because I had friends in Korea. I really like Korean food; but the focus is Terry

I found that Koreans are generally not as friendly as Taiwanese, so I was attracted back to Taiwan.

When I came to Taichung, Terry found that he didn’t really like Taichung because he felt there were too many people in Taichung and it took a long time to get from the city center to the mountains and sea.

Later I accidentally discovered that I like the eastern part of Taiwan because it is closer to the natural mountains and seas, more natural and primitive, and the population is not too dense.

So I started looking for a job as an English teacher in eastern Taiwan,

I didn’t choose Yilan because it rains too much,

I did not choose Taitung City because there were no job opportunities at that time;

So I came to Hualien City,

Why didn’t you choose to open a store in Hualien city center?

Because Hualien city center is too crowded,

He also said that the store was named Summer Too Hot because it is too hot in summer in Taiwan, perhaps due to the high humidity.

Although the temperature in my hometown in the United States is hot in summer, the temperature in winter is minus 20 degrees Celsius. There is no winter in Taiwan. He likes cold more than winter, so the store is named Summer Too Hot!

Terry said that Oklahoma in the United States has a monotonous plain landscape with no mountains or seas. It also reminds me of the self-driving trip from Los Angeles to Seattle along the western United States with my friends ten years ago. I remember that the climate here is Mediterranean, and the scenery along the way is monotonous and desert-like. Although the scenery is sometimes endless as far as the eye can see while driving, the landscape is mostly desert sand dunes.

Terry said that he has not been home since 2006 and can only rely on the Internet to relieve the pain of lovesickness. He has phone calls with his mother every week;

He said that his mother was too old. It took two transfers from her hometown and a drive from Taipei to Hualien. He was worried that the physical burden on her would be too much;

Fortunately, he has some brothers and sisters who are only half an hour’s drive away from his mother’s home, so he can often visit his mother. However, Terry’s brothers don’t like to go abroad and be away from home, so they have never come to Hualien to meet Terry.

The United States has a population of 200 million and a land area 200 times that of Taiwan. That is, the unit land area divided by the population density is about 20 times that of Taiwan, or the distance is magnified 20 times. Therefore, the driving distance from Taichung to Taipei is considered a neighbor.

Half an hour’s drive away, in terms of the United States, they are really close neighbors. He also said that when he lived in the United States, he only went to church once a year because it was a 12-hour drive from the church!

The longer I live in Hualien, the older I get,

Therefore, it is not easy to find a job as an English teacher early,

Suddenly I remembered that I loved eating pizza, and I also recalled that I loved eating pizza from my mother when I was a child, so I started selling pizza to make a living.

I only started selling pizza when I came to Taiwan, and I sold vegetarian pizza,

Because Terry said that he doesn’t like to eat animal carcasses and he only eats a little bit of meat; he also doesn’t want to dispose of animal carcasses for his guests.

Sell PIZZA vegetable scraps and compost them to make fertilizer for regeneration,

Terry said that if you sell meat, the leftovers cannot be composted, which is very unenvironmental!

After that, I opened a store at the current location. As I became my own boss, selling wood-fired vegetarian pizza, I also found that I was suitable to be a boss. There were many interesting things that I wanted to try and implement, but I also realized that it was no longer suitable for me. Please be an English teacher.

He said that he has many foreign friends and Taiwanese friends in Hualien,

He is busiest during the Lunar New Year. Since it is a one-person store, it takes a week just to prepare the ingredients.

But he said that he will have helpers next month, which sounds happy; because it is hard for a one-person boss to handle all the store operations.

Terry also said that the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival should also be very busy,

It is hard for a foreign friend to live alone in Taiwan,

The crust of Terry’s pizza is made in-house. Home-made pizza requires dough, so it takes some time to wait. When you come to Hualien in the east, you should be slow.

The dough contains some whole wheat flour, but it is not purchased from outside. It is whole wheat flour ground from whole wheat grains.

And his pizza can be chosen from 2 flavors at a time, including lacto-ovo-vegetarian and vegan pizza!

In my impression, the Xia Tai Hot pizza menu includes Italian, Mexican, Pesto and Egyptian flavors. Anyone who has tried Pesto, Pesto and Egyptian are delicious.

The preparation of pesto sauce is complicated. Sometimes if the weather is bad, the boss will control the preparation of ingredients, and there may be shortages.

Everything is vegetarian. If you don’t even want cheese, the boss can make it for you. There are also cinnamon rolls, be sure to try them.
