[Fulong Starry Sky Art Village and Coastal Cleanup]
A beautiful story.
Initially, several volunteers from the Ark Association and the Starry Sky Art Village co-organized the beach cleanup.
Currently, we hold nearly 20 beach cleanups annually along the Northeast Coast!

Beach cleaning isn’t just about beach cleaning.
Multi-element combination

A Fulong beach cleaning journey irrigated with love 🌱
How long has it been since you took a moment to gaze at the ocean?
Every month in Fulong, we hold a special event. It’s not just an event, but a journey to “give our all to the Earth.”
We ride our bicycles, braving the sea breeze, onto this familiar yet unfamiliar beach. Hand in hand, we bend down and pick up forgotten plastic, broken nets, and marine debris. It’s not just about cleaning, it’s about healing—healing the Earth and healing ourselves.

During the event, we prepared a sumptuous [Vegetarian Buffet]. Enjoy delicious, meatless, and eco-friendly dishes while discussing our visions of sustainable living. There was also an [Environmental Lecture] that revealed the true cries of the ocean, and a creative and fun [Ocean Waste Game]. Through laughter, we learned to cherish and, through the games, understood our responsibilities.
This isn’t just a one-day event; it’s a commitment and a hope. We believe that with just one more hand and one less plastic bag, the ocean will be a little bluer, and the Earth will have a little more breathing space.
The current environment is struggling, and we shouldn’t just stand by and watch.
We invite you to ride your bike, step onto the beach, roll up your pants, and love this land with your actions. Because—with you, there’s hope for the environment.

[Beach Cleaning at Fulong Starry Sky Art Village]
Fortunately, I had the opportunity to interview one of the owners.

1. When did you start the beach cleanup in Fulong, Northeast Taiwan?
It’s been almost four years.
I started it myself,
because the environment is Mother Earth.
I’ve noticed that people in Taiwan care more about the disadvantaged,
and fewer people are concerned about environmental protection, so I started this event.
We’ll continue to care about environmental protection. Each event has about 7-9 volunteers. Currently, there are about 2 volunteers from Ark and 5 from Starry Sky Art Village. Trash bags and clamps are provided, and environmental workers help with trash removal!
2. Is the event just a simple beach cleanup?
It would be a shame to only have a beach cleanup.
We’ll start at the Starry Sky Art Village.
In the summer, during hot weather, we’ll have a beach cleanup at 4:00 PM.
Even if there’s a light rain, we’ll still hold the beach cleanup!

3. Did you start environmental activities four years ago?
Yes, I started during college.
There was the Guanyinshan Beach Cleanup at I-Shou University in Kaohsiung, which is listed on the government website. It started at Guanyinshan, then Baisha Bay, and ended at Shoal Beach!
We continued doing it until 3-4 years ago, when we moved to Fulong in the northeast corner of Taiwan.
In the early days in Fulong, we only held one event monthly, from April to October.
Since then, we’ve received support and sponsorship from businesses, and now we hold about 20 events each year. Anyone interested in environmental protection can bring their children along!
For safety reasons, children must be 10 years old or older to participate.
4. Previously, the event was co-organized by Ark and Starry Sky Art Village.
However, Ark is currently focusing on caring for the disadvantaged and elderly.
In the future, it will mainly focus on Starry Sky Art Village and will not be held at more famous attractions such as Dongxing Palace Beach.
Because popular attractions have regular cleanups,
the beach cleanup locations have shifted to the Coast Guard Administration and Gui’an Fishing Port.
5. How do environmental activities complement home organizers?
A friendly environment is a bridge. With a mindset of letting go, through decluttering and understanding yourself, you’ll know what you need. You won’t buy extra items, and you’ll give away unused items to those in need. This will contribute to environmental sustainability and reduce the consumption of Earth’s resources.
6. What was your most memorable beach cleanup activity?
Adults leading children in beach cleanup, or children leading adults in beach cleanup, are the perfect parent-child environmental protection activity and a perfect example of how environmental education can be integrated into family and school education!
Families and children are welcome!
This sustainable day trip is centered around environmental friendliness, recycling marine waste, and vegan cuisine!
