Shuangxi Peony Station

During the Japanese colonial period, the railway reached Peony before extending to Shuangxi. The opening of the railway to both Peony and Shuangxi had a groundbreaking impact on travel to Yilan!
This is akin to the historical route of the Tamsui-Kavalan Trails North Route, which stretched from Nuannuan through Gongliao’s coast to Yilan.
Peony, referred to as “Wudan” during the Qing Dynasty, with “Dan” meaning settlement in the language of the Pingpu tribes, indicates that before the Han settlers arrived to clear the land, there were already numerous Pingpu communities residing in this area.

Hualien Port and Meilun Strategy Guide

If traveling from the north to the Hualien-Taitung East Coast, one can follow the Suhua Highway to Xincheng, opting not to enter the traditional city area. By taking Route 9 past County Government Road and passing Meilun, one can quickly head to the East Coast via Route 11. Alternatively, one can also quickly reach the longitudinal valley through Shoufeng in Hualien.

In addition to Meilun Mountain, Meilun is also closely adjacent to Hualien Port!

Keelung Port, Suao Port, and Hualien Port all play critical roles as strategic maritime hubs in the northeast.

Shuangxi Peony Station

From Jinguashi, with Keelung Mountain leaning to the right and a distant view of the Pacific Ocean to the east, one can fully appreciate the beauty of Jiufen!
Before reaching Jinguashi, one would pass by Jishan Street, easily accessible via the alley next to the Jiufen 7-11.
Jishan Street is one of the highlights of the old street. Known as “Dark Street,” it is a winding and narrow street that was once the busiest commercial center, bustling with various shops. The small street often had canopies extended by the shop owners, blocking out the daylight. Miners used to gather here from the afternoon into the evening, earning it the nickname “Dark Street.” This bears a striking resemblance to the Old Street of the Qiandao in Jinguashi.

Walking slowly is a beautiful way to travel,
Only through in-depth experience and exploration can you be free.

Travel is discovery, travel is adventure
Travel is about feeling, travel is about independence
Travel is connection, travel is understanding
Traveling is reading, traveling is communicating
Travel is a challenge, travel is learning

A purposeful trip with a purpose, just want to spend a few days doing nothing!

“The ‘no-term and inaction’ way of traveling means that when you arrive at a place, you don’t expect to do anything, and you have no goals.”

Even if you are aimless and don’t plan your itinerary in advance, you just go with the flow of nature. When you go to the bright flowers, you will have fun; when you go to the waterless place, you will return without success. You are unrestrained, have no demands and desires, and can do anything. There is no limit to anything.

Zhuangzi Xiaoyaoyou:
「If you take advantage of the righteousness of the heaven and the earth and guard against the debate of the six qi, and you want to swim infinitely, you will be treated badly! Therefore, it is said: A perfect person has no self, a god has no merit, and a saint has no name.」

Take it easy;
If we can follow the nature of all things,
Control the changes of the six qi to swim in the infinite realm,
Feel the changes in climate and weather in nature,
By experiencing and feeling the beauty, you can achieve physical and mental sedimentation,
The soul is one with the way of nature, and has nothing to rely on;
Therefore, you can be free and roam in the infinite world

Traveling slowly can lead to relaxation!
