The rich traditional culture of the Ami people is represented by the famous harvest season in summer. The traditional society is mainly matrilineal, and the tribal organization is male-right.
There is a strict age group organization. The Ami people have started farming and planting rice very early. Most of the farmland is held by women, while fishing and hunting are male specialties. The gorgeous dresses, Tengwei and pottery in the harvest festival are concrete manifestations of the Amis culture.
2. Sakilaya tribe, Kavalan:
Sakiraiya was originally living in Hualien. In 1878, she escaped the disaster of the Jialiyuan Incident and entered the Amis world. She lived with the Amis and learned the Amis language. It was not until the name rectification movement in 2004 that she showed her true colors to the world. , becoming the 13th aboriginal ethnic group in Taiwan.
In 1878, the Jialiyuan Incident broke out in the Chilai Plain. The Kavalan people of the Jialiyuan community in Chilai and the Sakilaya people of the local Jinlaoye community moved from Yilan to the east of the Coast Mountains after their joint resistance to the Qing Dynasty was frustrated. Among them, the Kavalans live in the Fengbin Xinshe tribe, and the Sakilaya tribe is distributed in Shoufeng Shuilian and Fengbin Jiqi.
The places with the largest number of Sakilea are Shuilian and Isozaki. Among them, Isozaki is the most complete tribe that has preserved the true nature of Sakilea. It lives among the mountains and seas almost isolated from the outside world, retaining its culture, language and ethnic lifeline. .
