【The past and present of East Coast Road (6)】

Not long after Provincial Highway 11 goes south past Shuilian Tribe, it will pass by Basaki Observation Tower!

Baqi Observation Deck is located at the commanding heights of Provincial Highway 11. Because of the contrast between the majestic mountains on both sides and the Pacific coast, and the commanding location, you can clearly see Isozaki Bay, Guihou Cape and Xinshe Sea Cliff. , is a must-go rest stop for many people traveling along the Eastern Coast Highway. In addition to the azure coastline, the east coast winding road can also be seen at the same time. The beautiful scenery is no wonder it is called one of the most charming scenery along Provincial Highway 11.

Baqi Observation Tower can be said to be the most beautiful “turning point” on the south side of Provincial Highway 11.

In the early days when the east coast was not widened,

Since traveling north from Isozaki Beach, I have been wandering in the coastal mountains,

I remember that there was Basaki Observation Tower at that time. Almost every time I passed by, I would rest and be in a daze at Basaki Observation Tower.

When passing the hairpin bend here, the scenery changes from the green mountains and forests on both sides,

Suddenly it turns into a vast Pacific Ocean with majestic coastal mountains; walk into this lookout and look to the east, the Pacific Ocean is blue, and to the south you can also overlook the top of Oishibi Mountain on the south side of Isozaki Bay. The view is obvious. It’s Dashibi Mountain,

It looks like a pretty right triangle, and you can see it from a distance!

The reason why such beautiful terrain is formed is mainly due to the different soft and hard geology, because the hardness of igneous rock and sand shale is different.

The rock formation of Jiqi Beach in Hualien is a soft sand and shale layer. Due to the differential erosion of long-term sea currents, the terrain is sunken inward to form a bay. In addition, waves, coastal currents and other transported sand and gravel are accumulated on the beach. Therefore, A soft beach is formed, and the north and south sides are hard volcanic breccias. The contrast between sand and rock makes us admire the uncanny workmanship of nature. It is a great geological landscape classroom.

It also reminds me of the old days when Su Hua went south and turned a corner to see Tung Ao Bay. Nowadays, if you go from Su Hua to Dong Ao and go directly from Su Ao to Dong Ao, you won’t see this scene!

The Dashibi Mountain Trail is right next to the famous Hualien Jiqi Beach, which is also the only bathing beach on the east coast.

Oshibi Mountain is located at the southern end of the Isozaki Seaside Recreation Area. It is a hill protruding from the coastline. Because the landform is mostly made of huge rocks, the geographical position protruding from the coast looks like a “nose” and the mountain shape resembles a turtle’s back, so it is called “Oshibi Mountain”. ” or “Guan Mountain”. The total length is 750 meters and can be completed in only 15-20 minutes. It is a family-friendly trail!

I remember that when I passed the Dashibi Mountain Trail in the past, it was often already noon in summer, and I would be sweating before climbing, so there were no mountain climbing and other trails.

The round trip time of the Dashibi Mountain Trail should be controlled in 30 to 40 minutes. Friends with fast feet may be able to complete it in 20 minutes!

The “Dashibishan Trail” was built along the mountain with a total length of 750 meters. There are entrances and exits at the north and south ends, as well as public toilets and parking lots. The hiking trail is quite well planned, with mileage markers and pavilions along the way. Most of the steps are made of sleepers and stones. The steps are not very undulating, making it quite comfortable to walk. The entire distance can be completed in less than an hour. When the weather is clear, you can see pastures, onions, seven lilies, wild lilies and other forest features along the trail. It is very suitable for observing the animal and plant ecology and topographic landscape. After climbing to the top, you can overlook Taiwan 11 Highway, Isozaki Bay and the blue Pacific Ocean in 360 degrees. With beautiful views, there is also a landscape pavilion for travelers to rest. It is a natural ecological trail for parents and children to travel together.

The neighboring Isozaki tribe has a large number of Sakilea tribesmen and is the tribe that best retains the true nature of Sakilea tribe.

After the Jialiyuan Incident in the 4th year of Guangxu’s reign in the Qing Dynasty (1878),

The Sakilaya tribe, who originally lived in Hualien, lived in seclusion among the Ami tribe and moved southward, settling on the north bank of the present-day Jialulan River mouth.

At that time, the Sakilaya tribe deliberately concealed their identity to avoid retaliation from the Qing army. It was not until 2004 that the tribe’s name was officially restored.

The Sakilaya tribe, formerly translated as the Chilai Tribe, Sakilaya, Sakzaye or Sakizaya, is an ethnic group of Taiwanese aborigines who have lived in the Chilai Plain in Hualien. Population data are reported to the Ministry of the Interior There are about a thousand people. The “Sakilaya Tribe” has lived in the Qilai Plain (i.e. Hualien Plain) in Hualien for generations. Its sphere of influence is approximately south of “Liwu Creek” and north of “Papa Creek”. It was once the largest on the Hualien Plain. Aboriginal groups

When I was a child, there were 9 aboriginal tribes. Now 13 tribes have their names corrected. Of course, more tribes will have their names corrected in the future.

I remember that not far south of Dashibi Mountain is the Gemalan Xinshe tribe!

The scenery and culture on the east coast are wonderful!
