So the first experience of Liyutan SUP began!

Although I have visited Liyu Lake in Hualien several times, this is the first time I have a SUP experience in Liyu Lake.

Not far from Hualien City, about half an hour’s drive away, Liyu Lake is about 1.6 kilometers at its longest point from north to south and about 930 meters at its widest point from east to west. It is located in Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, with an area of ​​about 104 hectares. It is the capital of Hualien County. The largest inland lake in the territory. The local people originally called it “Dabi”, while the Ami people called it “Ba Nao”. Later, it was named Liyu Lake because it is adjacent to Liyu Mountain in the east. Surrounded by mountains, the air is sweet, and the lake is often filled with mist and mist. Paddling on a SUP allows you to deeply experience the beauty of nature! As you gradually enter the center of the lake, you can appreciate the mountains, the carp pond, and the deep emerald green water from different angles. In addition to being close to Hualien City, the calm water area is safe and beautiful. It has a unique geographical location and is less affected by the northeast monsoon. Also because of the characteristics of the barrier lake, the water temperature will be slightly higher than that of streams/seawater, so it is a good time to play in the water all year round! After the experience, I felt that the water temperature of Liyu Lake was really comfortable. Especially in autumn and winter, you can still enjoy SUP and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lake Brienz in Switzerland. If you go there early in the morning, you will really feel like you are on Lake Brienz in Switzerland. I remember that the earliest tour time in summer is 5:30, and in autumn and winter it is after 6 a.m.; the most beautiful time for Liyu Lake is when the sun rises in front of Liyu Mountain in the early morning. It’s worth getting up early to appreciate, and there are pictures to prove it!

At that time, I remember that I led the children to experience SUP by participating in the early morning group. I remember that day, the sun was shining brightly and the water was misty; the children were initially afraid of going into the water, but later they all had a great time! This is all thanks to Coach Li.

Stand-up paddling There is no paddling, just immersion in the pool, dog crawling 3HR, or sitting on a rainbow pony.

Alternative children say that soaking in water is more fun, and sitting on a rainbow pony is more fun. Because I don’t know how to control a stand-up paddle.

Thanks to the coach for his attentive guidance and taking good care of the two children. The coach is very busy. In addition to taking care of the children, he also has to take care of the skateboard that needs to float away at any time. He also has to take careful photos to capture the wonderful moments of the children! I am also grateful for the opportunity to have a deeper understanding of the coach’s journey! It was amazing to find out that the coach stayed in the pool for twelve hours that day. He led 3 games. He really loved SUP water sports, which is admirable.

I remember that day in Liyutan, I saw people shirtless, without protective gear, and it was even more shocking to see dogs on SUP! Later, there were nearly ten boats in Liyutan. Neighbors of Wubaihu Community were paddling on Liyutan. Put on the stand-up paddle and immediately look leisurely and contented! Thank you, coach, for your loving and attentive leadership.

Coach Li wanted to give his children a comfortable and non-crowded learning environment, so he moved from Hsinchu to Wubaihu Community in Shoufeng, Hualien. This community is close to Donghua University and has both a natural environment and cultural and educational facilities. Many small families like Coach Li have moved in, and they yearn to raise children in a natural environment. These parents formed a Waldorf self-study group and actively participated in community operations, enriching community life functions and attracting more partners who share the same philosophy.

Coach Li originally ran a bookstore in Hsinchu. After moving to Hualien, he worked in hotel camping areas and B&Bs. After the epidemic, he changed his career. In fact, I did not regard SUP as a career that could be developed at first. Later I found that SUP is very suitable for parents and children to have fun together, and it is also very relaxing and stress-relieving. Therefore, we brought SUP activities to the entire community, formed a team, and set up our own studio to vigorously promote SUP activities.
