In the early days, I drove south from Changbin to Chenggong. When I passed the Stone Umbrella, I knew in my heart that I was not far from the town of Chenggong!

In fact, we will pass by the Chengguang Ao landscape, the Cheng Guang Ao Thean Hou Temple, and the Cheng Guang Ao fishing port but we will not stop;

Perhaps most people go to Chenggong Town to eat seafood, until they understand the history of these three places and find that they should stop here before entering Chenggong Town, Chengguang’ao Landscape Park, and Xiaogang The fishing port and Xiaogang Tianhou Temple are connected together and are very close to the Chenggong Flower Sea and the Chenggong Farmers Association!

“Chengguang’ao” on the east coast is like “Mao’ao” in the northeast corner!

The “Chengguang’ao Cultural Landscape” Park is a testimony to the history of Han people’s reclamation and development on the East Coast. It should be the first place where the Han people developed the East Coast!

East Coast Highway 107.5k, named “Chengguang’ao Cultural Landscape” Park, was originally the site of “Guanghengfa Company”, which was the first business in eastern Taiwan.

The architectural style is the “Baroque” style three-arch archway and the brick-arched arcade-style “pavilion foot”. They are both built of stone and are elegant. This shows the strong financial resources possessed by the Wen family at that time.

The widening project was carried out in the 85th year of the Republic of China, and the archway on the north side was destroyed. Only the facade of the commercial bank and the foot of the pavilion of the Baroque building are still clearly visible.

Thanks for the establishment of the “Chengguang-ao Cultural Landscape”, which has left a testimony to the history of Han people’s reclamation and development on the east coast.

Chengguang’ao, also known as Xiaogang, is a natural deep-water harbor where military ships have been berthed for a long time. It is said that in the late Ming Dynasty, Han people came here to do business. Because the Han people in Hong Kong and Macao called the harbor “Ao Tsai”, and the shape was similar to the left and right pincers of a crab, surrounding the bay, it was also called “蟳 Guang Ao”, which can be seen in the distance. Sanxiantai.

Chengguang’ao was an important stronghold for the Han people on the east coast during the Qing Dynasty. Wen Taikun, a Hakka from Neipu, Pingtung, came to Chengguang’ao in the 20th year of Guangxu’s reign (1894). He founded the first store on the east coast, “Guanghengfa Store”, which became the largest grocery store on the east coast of Huadong at that time. They sell rice, salt and other daily necessities, and use the convenience of the port to transport supplies directly from the west to the back mountains.

Mr. Wen Taikun, who became the richest man in Xingang at that time, the contemporary geographical environment,

It is really like Maao in the northeast corner. They both made their fortune from the port location and became the richest Wu family in the northeast corner.

【Chengguang’ao Fishing Port】

Due to the excellent harbor topography, ships have docked and cultural exchanges have been taking place here for a long time.

This place is also known as Xiaogang Fishing Port. The most special thing here is that you can see Sanxiantai.

The place was first called “Chang Guang Ao”. The name comes from the fact that before the Xiaogang Fishing Port was built, the place was a bay surrounded by a natural harbor with an oval coral reef shaped like the left and right pincers of a crab. Got its name.

In the late Ming Dynasty, Han people came here to do business in Guang’ao Beach. The Han people brought various livelihood materials, which led to early cultural exchanges between the local aboriginal people and the Han people, which in turn changed the lifestyle of the local aboriginal people.

During the Qing Dynasty, Qing soldiers were stationed here. Moreover, the Qing soldiers stationed here were all from the Guangdong region of mainland China, so “蟳Guang’ao” was renamed “Chengguang’ao”.

Taiwan was ceded to Japan after the Treaty of Shimonoseki. In 1937 (Showa 12), the Japanese stationed here changed the name “Chengguang’ao” to “Kominato”.

In the 34th year of the Republic of China, what the Japanese originally called “Xiaominato” was renamed “Xiaogang”, and this name is still used today.

【Cheng Guang Ao Tian Hou Temple】

[The first Mazu Temple to be stationed in Houshan]

The bright hall of Tianhou Temple in Guang’ao is the beautiful harbor of Guang’ao Fishing Port!

Chengguangao Tianhou Temple is located in the Xiaogang area of Chenggong Town, also known as “Xiaogang Tianhou Temple”. Founded in the 10th year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1871 AD), it is the earliest Tianhou Temple in Houshan, Taiwan, and the oldest Mazu temple in Taitung. It has a considerable history…

The Tianhou Temple in Chengguang’ao is the earliest Mazu temple stationed in Houshan. It was built during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty. Chengguang’ao is the largest natural Hong Kong and Macao on the eastern coast. Liu Jin, a native of Fujian, was sent from Lukang to the eastern Houshan. Before leaving, he invited The “Mazu” from Lukang Tianhou Temple accompanied her as a protector, along the Batong Pass Ancient Road from Puli to Yuli, exiting Antong and then crossing the Coast Mountains.

Going to the urban area of Chenggong Town, you will definitely pass by Chengguang’ao Landscape, Chengguang’ao Tianhou Temple, Chengguang’ao Fishing Port,

Then after passing Meishan, you will arrive at Chenggong Town;

Chengguang’ao Landscape, Chengguang’ao Tianhou Temple, and Chengguang’ao Fishing Port are three early historical marks of Chengguang’ao Town that are not to be missed.
