Come on, take the Taiwan Railway from Taipei Main Station to Mudan and Shuangxi

[Shuangxi and Mudan Stations]

The special thing about Mudan Station is that it is the largest turn on Taiwan Railway!

The special thing about Sungai Mudan Station is the Peony Slope!

The two Peony and Shuangxi railways are closely related to early mining

During the Japanese colonial period, the railway first connected to Mudan and then to Shuangxi. After the Mudan and Shuangxi railways were connected, it had an epoch-making impact on travel to Yilan!

This is like the North Tamlan Ancient Road leading from Nuannuan to Gongliao Beach and then to Yilan!

Peony was called “Wudan” in the Qing Dynasty, and “Dan” means settlement in the Pingpu language. Yes

Before the Hoklo people came here to cultivate wasteland, there were many Pingpu ethnic groups living here.

Mudan Slope: The slope height difference between Mudan Station and Shuangxi Station is about 50 meters. In the early days, trains had to be equipped with auxiliary engines to climb. In order to reduce the slope of the train, the slope was traded for length.

As a result, there is a large 120-degree curve in Mudan Station, creating a strange scene of the front and rear of the train looking at each other. It is also the railway station with the largest curve on the island.

Between Shuangxi Station and Mudan Station is a steep slope with a gradient of 16/1000. Mudan Station is located just on the famous “Mudan Slope” of the railway. In the early years, trains were not as powerful as today’s trains, so a switchback station design was required. The train had to be equipped with an auxiliary machine to climb when it reached this station. Later, in order to solve the problem of slope, the railway traded length for slope, which increased the length of the train. As a result, there is a 120-degree turn in Mudan Station.

The track where the train runs has multiple tracks with a “guard rail design”, which is used to reduce the height difference caused by the turns of the track and prevent trains from derailing.

The opening of the Yilan Line Railway in 1924 brought major changes to the transportation in the Shuangxi area. With the travel speed of the Mackay era, business travelers traveling between Tamsui Hall and Kavalan Hall would stop in Shuangxi along the Tamlan Ancient Road. After one night, with the opening of the Yilan Line railway, the steam train will stop at Shuangxi to add coal and water.

The mission of Tamlan Ancient Trail North has changed from a traffic trail to a more important mission of historical preservation, ancient exploration, outing and outing…

By the way, some couples have taken wedding photos here at the beautiful railway station Mudan Bay!

The very quiet coffee shop with its name SLOW is suitable for slowly savoring. The boss is very professional in tea and coffee and has unique techniques. It is a unique experience that is definitely not found in other places. After staying there for an afternoon, I gave 5 star recommendation

A space that cannot be completely defined

A place full of meaning, even though it is a cafe. The boss has tidied up a dilapidated old house very well, with ancient ideas and new ideas. Plan a kendo practice ground and an environment to experience coffee and tea.

The Kendo teacher is also the owner of a coffee shop. The business model he designed is to allow customers to come here and taste a variety of coffee or tea without any pressure. But rather than business model design, it should be that the boss wants the guests to experience the taste more happily.

I really recommend coming here and come here often when you have time.

Experience the different towns of Mudan and Shuangxi.

The towns of Peony and Shuangxi in New Taipei are super beautiful. It is recommended to live a slow life and stay for a night or two before leaving!

[Maao in San Diao Ridge in the northeast corner]

【Except for Jiufen, the sea and sky are the same color】

“Transportation”

Stay in Peony the night before

Take the Taiwan Railway Yilan Line from Mudan to Fulong,

Get off at Fulong Station and take a taxi or Uber to Maao!

Everyone has only heard of Jiufen, not Maao,

But you must know him, he is the pearl of the northeast coastline

Maao is a small fishing village located in Maao Bay, San Diaojiao, the northeast corner of the Northeast Special Area. In the 1940s and 1950s, external transportation was still very inconvenient, and the history and culture were passed down by word of mouth.

This is like the Malacca Strait. In the early days, the Pingpu ethnic group, Han Chinese, Spaniards, and Japanese also came here. Because of the reclamation by the Han peopleLater, as more and more Han people settled in the area, and after intermarriage with the Pingpu people, the transportation construction in Mao’ao should be the railway and the Taiwan Second Line!

In 1926 AD, the Spanish landed from northern Taiwan. At that time, San Diaojiao was called “Santiago”, which was translated into Chinese as “Santiago”. After the Spanish landed, they ruled the Santiago area (including Maao).

On May 29, 1895, Japanese troops landed in what is now Yanliao Park, beginning the next 50 years of Japanese rule in Taiwan. At that time, there were troops stationed in Maao and Magang.

It can be seen how important the northeast corner is as a key indicator in the time and space of the modern historical corridor!

In the early days of Maao Fishing Village, there were wealthy businessmen and it was the place where bonito tuna was manufactured. It was originally named Little Keelung. Among them, the Wu family was the most famous and could be said to be the king of the northeast corner.

The ancestors of the Wu family were from Zhangpu, Zhangzhou, Fujian. In the Qing Dynasty, they migrated from the west of San Diaojiao to Maao, where they engaged in fishing and intermarried with people from San Diao Society in Dipingpu. At that time, Wu Yongci was successful in the fishery business and became a wealthy businessman. He later passed the building to his eldest son Wu Wentong.

Wu Wentong inherited his father’s business, operating bonito fish farms and setting up permanent nets. In the 4th year of Showa (1929), he organized the “Maao Fishery Association” with local people. It was the earliest cooperative enterprise in the San Diao area. “Gongliao Township” “Zhi” once described: “Today’s Maao, there is a stone second floor, Wen Tong’s former home, where the bonito comb is built.”

It can be seen that the wealthy merchants in the northeast corner were in Maao at that time. Their main industry was fishing and they were very powerful locally!

There are gains and losses, but because of this, the past lifestyle has been preserved, and it has become a small fishing village with a rich cultural atmosphere and unique stone house architecture!

Mao O fishing village in the northeast corner has gradually become well-known, but I still remember the quiet fishing village and the gentle summer breeze of Mao O Bay a year or two ago.

Stay a few more nights in Mudan and head to Mingzhu Maao and Magang in the northeast corner!

[I like the owner of Outpost Coffee in the northeast corner]

The coffee owner’s family are nature lovers.

Because my parents like the coast in the northeast corner very much, they found out that the East Management Office was conducting a tender for manufacturers two years ago, so they encouraged young bosses to come and bid, and it was by chance that they came here! ,

At the request of the East Management Office, I decided to open a coffee shop after thinking about it.

The coffee owner said that he likes the northeast corner not only on the coast where the coffee shop is located, but also on this section of the coast. He likes the purity here and the connection between the mountains and the sea.

The northern commuters around me may spend 3 hours commuting to work in a city company, and they may think that commuting is miserable;

But the owner of Outpost Coffee has to spend 3 hours traveling between Taipei City and the Northeastern corner during the coffee shop’s business hours!

Asked him if driving every day is hard, he said no, because he has to drive to such a beautiful place every day to go to work!

Ha, the beauty of nature can affect your mood.

He said that sometimes he would sleep romantically on a folding bed in a coffee shop. At night, looking at the Pacific Ocean dotted with fishing fires was really beautiful.

This is the exclusive romance of coffee shop owners.

There are also interesting things about opening a store,

For example, before the epidemic, Abel, who lived in Spain for a long time, often cycled through here,

Every time I come to drink coffee, I also bring proud old tea leaves to us to drink and share with us.

Also when the northeast monsoon affects the northeast corner in winter

When there are no guests in the wind and rain,

A couple who always come to the store on weekday afternoons and order two cups of cocoa while working and reading, sit there until closing time,

At that time, I also felt that it was a great companionship!

It is not easy to provide wonderful coffee and catering to travelers on the beautiful northeastern coast. It is not easy to find supplies except for the staff.

When you look at the Pacific Coffee Pairing here, you can feel the boss’ love for the northeast corner,

Because this is the boss’s sincere wish that he drove back and forth to the northeast corner of Taipei City for three hours to open a store. He loves the northeast corner!

The blue Pacific Ocean here is not the east coast Taitung blue, not the Hualien blue, but the unique northeastern blue!
